In signing the Climate Protection Agreement, Mayors across the country have committed to: Striving to meet or exceed the targets of the Kyoto Protocol (an international agreement to address climate disruption); Urging Federal and State government to quickly enact policies and programs that would essentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and urging U.S. Congress to pass bipartisan Greenhouse Gas Reduction legislation thereby establishing a national emission trading system.
“Global warming is an increasing health and environmental threat. Even though there are local policies in place, quick, productive action needs to be taken in order to protect our communities,” noted Sascha Deri, president of the Alternative Energy Store. He continued, “We strongly support the ‘Climate Protection Agreement’ and offer participating towns, their residents and local institutions, such as school and town offices, a 5 percent discount on alternative energy systems.”
