Q. How can I access data from the Eagle 1 or Eagle 2 controller?
A. You now have several options when working with the “Eagle” line of solar controllers. The Eagle 1 control is the base line model capable of data output to remote display or via serial RS232 to a desktop or laptop computer. (Only one connection can be made at a time) Both the remote display and the data adapter cable are available. The computer requires the “Terminal” or “HyperTerminal” program (a standard accessory program to MS Windows) to interpret the data. The data can then be written to a file, .csv, .or txt. The Eagle 2 control has an onboard display and a data adapter port. It uses the same data adapter cable to connect to a PC.

TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE CONTROL
When the temperature difference between the sensor in the solar collector and the sensor in the storage tank exceeds the “temperature difference” dialed in the controller, the pump relay will actuate after a 30 second delay. The blue LED indicator will also turn on. If the temperature difference decreases and falls below 4 F (2.2 C) the pump relay and the blue LED indicator will turn off immediately.

HIGH LIMIT CONTROL
If the temperature in the storage tank exceeds the HI-LIMIT temperature dialed in the controller, the pump will be turned OFF immediately regardless of the status of the "temperature difference" that exists between the storage tank and the solar collector. The blue LED indicator will also turn be turned OFF. Should the storage tank temperature fall below the setting in the HI-LIMIT in the controller then control action will return back to its normal control operation. The pump relay will always have a 30 second delay to the ON position and the blue LED will always show its STATUS condition.

DATA PORT
Requires an IMC Data port/RS232 adapter. This will allow interface to a standard PC serial port. The adapter can further accept a serial/USB converter to connect directly to PC or Laptops that only have USB ports. If wireless operation is desired for short distances, Bluetooth transceiver can also be connected. The rate at which the data is sent from the EAGLE solar controller is determined by a jumper in the controller as show in the controller diagram. If the jumper is placed in position one it will send one complete line of "Total system information" to the PC every 2 seconds which is necessary when performing diagnostics or a system startup. If the second jumper position is selected then DATA will be sent every 6 minutes. This will permit long term data logging when receiving the data into a capture file set up in the PC "Terminal" communications program.
