Solar Water Heating: From the Basics to Installation

 

This two-day workshop will be offered the following weekends in 2008:

Saturday, April 26 - Sunday, April 27 and
Saturday, September 27 - Sunday, September 28

With heating costs soaring upwards, now is the time to invest in solar thermal! This two-day workshop provides a great foundation for not only those just looking to learn more about solar water heating systems but also for contractors interested in expanding into system service and installation.

Course Goal:

Participants will gain an in-depth knowledge of Solar Heating Systems and learn how to determine the feasibility and system size requirements.

  • Gain an understanding of Solar Water Heating systems and their applications.
  • Provide knowledge of the various types of solar heating systems and their suitability to different climates and situations
  • Be capable of basic site assessment procedures
  • Learn the "ins and outs" of setting up solar hot water systems
  • Discuss best-practices for solar water heating system installations

Course Format:

This is a two-day workshop including lecture, A/V presentations, technology demonstrations, book and scheduled breaks

Lecture Topics:

  • Science and technology of solar water heating
  • Description of the types of collectors
  • System sizing and basic site assessment procedures
  • Economic benefits of solar water heating
  • Installation parameters of various systems

Course Prerequisite:

None at all - come, learn and meet like-minded folks!

Bob RamlowBob is a founding member of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, co-owner of Artha Sustainable Living Center LLC and a lead consultant for the state of Wisconsin Focus on Energy program. He is the author of Solar Water Heating, A Comprehensive Guide to Solar Water and Space Heating Systems, the first book of it's kind written in over 20 years. Bob has more than 25 years experience designing and installing solar systems and has been a driving force in the growth of solar thermal use in the mid-west. Bob not only consults and educates on renewable energy, he leads by example living in a home that is powered by the sun and built with sustainable materials.

6: Turn LEFT onto MA-85 / WASHINGTON ST. 0.1 miles

Take Exit 25A onto Hudson Street. Go about a mile to the 2nd set of stop lights and take a left onto Route 85. Take your first right onto Broad Street. Follow Broad Street for about 3/4 of a mile. On the left hand side after you cross a small bridge you should see a large brick building, known as the Hudson Mills Building at 43 Broad Street. Park in the front and take the main lobby elevator to the 4th floor. Our office is on the far Southeast side of the building. Follow the signs to find your way.

Important Information:

Workshop enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, as workshop size is limited. To reserve a space please pay the entire tuition upon sign-up. Workshops are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment, and you will be notified in advance if a class you had previously enrolled in is cancelled.

Cancellation Policy (Also Important Information!):

If you cancel prior to 30 days before the workshop start date, 50% of your total tuition is non-refundable, plus the cost of any materials sent to you. If you cancel within 30 days of the workshop start date, your entire tuition is non-refundable. Please inform us in writing of your cancellation.
